Before Intravenous Anesthesia Sedation
- You may not have any solid food to eat for eight (8) hours prior to surgery. You may not drink liquids (including water) for six (6) hours prior to the surgical appointment.
- A responsible adult must accompany the patient to the office, remain in the office during the procedure, and drive the patient home.
- Please wear loose fitting clothing with sleeves which can be rolled up past the elbow to permit access to the area where anesthesia will be administered through the IV.
- Low heeled shoes should be worn. Stable shoes, not sandals, should be worn.
- Patients whom wear contact lenses should leave them out or bring their contact lens case to the appointment and remove the lenses prior to surgery.
- If prior to your surgery you develop an illness such as a cold, cough, sore throat, upset stomach, etc…please notify our office. Your appointment may need to be rescheduled.
- The patient should not drive a vehicle or operate any dangerous machinery for 24 hours following the anesthesia experience. Patients should not address any responsible business matters for 24 hours.
- Patients should refrain from smoking for at least 12 hours before surgery. It is ideal to stop smoking as soon as possible prior to the day of surgery.
- If you are nursing an infant, breast feeding should be avoided for 24 hours following your surgery.
- IMPORTANT: If there is any chance you may be pregnant you must alert the doctor. A pregnancy test will need to be ordered prior to surgery if there is any chance you may be pregnant.
- IMPORTANT: All patients under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at the consultation visit and the surgical visit.
