About Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Oral and maxillofacial surgery requires additional years of hospital-based surgical and anesthesia training after graduation from dental school. Dr. Bundy was in private practice General Dentistry prior to completing his 4 year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at the Medical College of Georgia.
Dr.Bundy continues to stay abreast of the latest techniques in dental implant related surgery (diagnostic imaging via Cone Beam CT, 3D guided surgical implant placement, bone grafting techniques to facilitate implant placement, prosthetic restoration of dental implants) by home study and by attending annual continuing education (CEU). Dr. Bundy is a member of the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Dental Association, the Colorado Dental Association and the Metro Denver Dental Society. In order to stay current with current surgical techniques and practices attendance at these types of seminars is mandatory in this day and age as technology moves forward at such a fast pace. This allows Dr. Bundy to stay at the forefront of new modalities of treatment for his patients, and facilitates communication with the restorative dental provider.
Dr. Bundy also regularly attend annual CEU courses in anesthesia to remain current in the safe delivery of anesthesia services.
You should know that oral surgeons undergo hospital operating room based anesthesia training where they act as the anesthesiologist for patients undergoing all types of surgical procedures under general anesthesia with intubation of the airway. Oral surgery is the only recognized dental specialty where this training is received.
Oral surgery training is extensive and involves training in the diagnosis and non-surgical and surgical management of diseases, injuries and deformities of the functional and esthetic aspects of the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial area (the head, neck, mouth, teeth, gums and jaw bones). Oral surgeons treat facial fractures due to trauma. They provide surgical corrective procedures of the jaw bones to treat malocclusions (malalignment of the teeth).
Our Staff
The surgical staff members at Red Rocks Oral Surgery are experienced, certified oral and maxillofacial surgical assistants who assist in administration of IV sedation and surgery.
The reception and billing staff members regularly attend continuing education courses (CEU) on the proper dental coding terminology and insurance billing practices (CDT) and medical coding terminology and insurance billing practices (CMT), as well as medical diagnosis coding (ICD-9 and ICD-10).
CT Scans
Red Rocks Oral Surgery has a state of the art Cone Beam CT scanner on site (CBCT). This instrument provides high resolution 3D CT images of the patients anatomy for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning. The images can be viewed in the axial, coronal, and sagittal planes as well as in a 3D model. You will not have to travel to an imaging center to have this imaging acquired. This saves you time and provides you with immediate diagnostic data at your initial visit.
The data and images acquired with the CBCT can be utilized to provide accurate diagnosis and treatment planning of: management impacted teeth; to aid in planning orthodontic tooth movement; to assess the dimensions of the bone in 3D for accurate implant placement; to allow for implant treatment planning in 3D with implant software that allows for the fabrication of precise implant surgical guides; to verify the location and size of pathologic lesions of the jaw bones; to locate the position of vital structures so as not to injure them at surgery; to aid in planning corrective jaw surgery; to assess pathology of the sinus cavities; etc.
CBCT images provide of level of accuracy of diagnostic data not possible with 2D imaging (plain film x-rays).
